The WCCA annual dinner - following the Election Court earlier in the afternoon - was held on 17th June 2015 at the Drapers' Hall on Throgmorton Street, close to the Bank of England.  This dinner was joined by both the Royal Institute of British Architects - RIBA, and The Commonwealth Association of Architects - the CAA. The latter organisation was celebrating their 50th year anniversary.

At the Court meeting, eight new members joined the Company; three as Liverymen and five as Freemen.  They are all very welcome.

The winning design for a Triumphal Arch

The winner

The 'runner up'

A Triumphal Arch designed by Chris Dyson, Tom Atkinson and Petra Topsy Kustrin of Chris Dyson Architects has won the ideas competition organised by the WCCA.

The competition celebrates The Queen’s service as Britain's longest reigning monarch. On 9th September 2015 she will overtake Queen Victoria who reigned for a total of 63 years, seven months and two days.

The roof deck of the winning arch is a viewing platform and raised peace garden. Engraved inscriptions on the floor beneath the arch celebrate the important events in The Queen's life and reign.

The runner up was Leon Fenster with a design formed of 173 interlocking canopies, one for each of the Queen's commonwealth visits since 1952.

A framed drawing of the winning design will be presented toThe Queen by Geoffrey Purves the Master of the Architects’ Company in September. The winner and runners up will be recognised at a Livery Banquet held at Drapers Hall on 17 June 2015 organised in association with the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Commonwealth Association of Architects.

The competition was organised by Assistant Valerie Owen.

The President's Evening, St Lawrence Jewry - 27 May 2015

I attended The President’s Evening at St Lawrence Jewry on Wednesday 27th May 2015. The Royal College of Organists’ President, Catherine Ennis, has been the organist at St Lawrence Jewry for 30 years. The recital was by the world-renowned soprano Susan Bullock together with Catherine playing a Bach Fantasia and Fugue. It was marvellous music performed by brilliant musicians. Afterwards we enjoyed a splendid reception in the Guildhall Gallery.
